English Regency marble mantel with very plain carved line detailing across the apron and corner motifs along the vertical supports. The gold coloring within these carved lines has faded, but enough remains to highlight the pattern. The Crema Marfil marble hearth is included. This mantel was one of several antique mantels imported from Europe, and installed to decorate the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City which opened October 1, 1931. It was original to suite A on the 10th floor. The installation at the Waldorf Astoria included two brick columns at the rear of the fireplace, with the shelf extending on the sides, and at the rear, beyond the marble surround. The dimensions are reflected in this untypical detail.
Waldorf Astoria authenticity card included with your purchase.
Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, please request the salvaged condition before purchasing.
