Waldorf Astoria English Regency Carved White Marble Mantel

This is a petite English Regency style mantel carved from veined statuary marble. Vertical flutings across the apron of the mantel blend superbly with matching vertical flutings on the face of the jambs. The center motif is a carved urn with floral elements in a sunken relief. It is complimented by floral motifs above the jambs that are carved in the same manner. This fireplace surround was created in a style of simplicity and elegance. The edges of the narrow shelf are modestly carved with a single groove. This simple detail is repeated along the face of all the trim moldings, with the exception of the trim pieces below the corner motifs.

This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel of NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to the 15th floor’s V Suite. The original hearth is not included. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
