Antique Louis XVI style marble fireplace mantle with decorative cast iron surround. Striking tan and gray veined marble is a prominent feature of this mantel. Carved cabled fluting decorates the face of the apron and angled jambs rise into a curved scroll pattern on each side. Grooved channels and straight lines decorate the face of each jamb, with a classic carved floral motif above. The modest, straight edge shelf is accented with straight line moldings underneath. And an impressive cast iron surround with urn and floral details completes this mantel.
This piece epitomizes “Louis Seize” – a style of architecture, furniture, decoration and art just before the French Revolution. Designs in this style hearkened back to the purity and grandeur of the art of the Ancient Greeks. As such, this hand-carved piece has simple, clean lines – further highlighting the stunning marble.
This mantel and surround are in good condition having wear consistent with its age and is on display in the showroom of our flagship store located at 333 West 52nd Street NYC. Visit us today to take a look.
